Key rules

These rules apply to every official assessment attempt.

What to expect

  • To review: 15 questions in a single category.
  • To review: A 20-minute total countdown for the whole attempt.
  • To review: One category per assessment.
  • To review: Difficulty adapts as you answer.
  • To review: Current difficulty is hidden during the assessment.
  • To review: No running score is shown.
  • To review: Progress is shown only as Question X of 15.
  • Needs attention: Where an “I'm not sure” option is offered, it scores the same as an incorrect answer.
  • Needs attention: The timer continues through refreshes, tab changes, temporary closure or connection interruptions.
  • To review: An attempt can be resumed only within its original 20-minute window.
  • To review: When the time expires, the answers provided so far are submitted automatically.
  • Fails the standard: Timed-out, incomplete or abandoned attempts receive no official level.

Timer and resuming

The 20-minute timer starts when the official assessment starts and does not pause for any reason.

If your browser refreshes, closes temporarily or your connection is interrupted, you can return and resume the attempt — but only while the original 20-minute window is still open.

Skill levels

Every official result places you at one of three levels.

Starter level

Starter

Foundational understanding and basic decisions.

Intermediate level

Intermediate

Practical application, evidence interpretation and common real-world decisions.

Expert level

Expert

Ambiguity, competing evidence, prioritisation, tradeoffs and complex situations.

What your result shows

Your exact weighted score, shown alongside the level as supporting detail.

  • Time taken

How long the completed attempt took.

  • Strong topics

  • Needs improvement

    Topics to prioritise before reassessing.

  • Recommended learning

Lessons matched to the topics you found hardest.

  • Next reassessment date

The date your next official attempt unlocks.

Topic feedback is qualitative — exact per-topic percentages are not shown. Detailed explanations for incorrect answers are available after completion.

Reassessment

After a valid completed official SEO assessment, your next official reassessment becomes available 30 days later.

When you return, your previous level, weighted score, completion date and next reassessment date are shown alongside this assessment.
